Store Interview: Pink Slip (New York and Online)

By Store Adore

What you look like in your clothes is all a matter of what is under them. The right bra or cut of underwear can completely change your shape-for better or worse. At Pink Slip, the right undergarments for everyone from a size A to a DD is always in stock. With a location in the heart of Grand Central Station, The Pink Slip not only provides gals on the go with a flavorful selection of unmentionables and necessary indulgences to spice up their everyday routines, but it has also become a reliable pit stop for guys to pick up a last-minute Valentine’s Day gift or a romantic surprise before the train rolls in. Here’s what The Pink Slip had to tell us about the latest in Lingerie, what to look for in-store, and how to pick the perfect present for a special someone else.

SA: What items have been flying off the proverbial shelves on your site and in your store?

PS: Right now it is Hanky Panky thongs (below, $19), Eberjey Chemises, and Timpa Duet Flowers Bras (see below, call The Pink Slip to order).

SA: What item or trend are you most excited about this season?

PS: Mimi Holiday Bras sets. They have a great London vibe: edgey but sexy.

SA: What trends are you happy to see go?

PS: Metallic leggings and pastel colors!

SA: If you could only chose three words to embody your store, what would they be?

PS: Fun, Friendly, and Fabulous!!

SA: What makes your site stand out from the competition?

PA: We offer “The Best of the Best” in lingerie today. We take the guesswork out of finding the most innovative and of the moment lingerie. We put it all in one place and have knowledgeable staff to make it fun and unimtimidating.

SA: What is your advice for buying lingerie for someone else?

PS: Stick to Chemises or a cute Cami set, the sizes are similar to clothing. Bras are not a good idea, they need to be tried on and fit everyone so differently. [Pictured above: Bare Essential Camisole, $22]

Save 15% at Pink Olive Online!

Whenever I’m in the market for a baby gift, I head straight to Pink Olive, where Pop Art blankets, modern plush animals, gift books and sassy onesies celebrate new life. While it’s true that presents picked from here score a home run every time, the real reason I like to buy for babies at this Park Slope, East Village, and online boutique is that I can also sneak in a little bit of shopping for myself. Owner Grace Kang (a former fashion buyer) divides her store into categories she calls baby, gifts and getaway. Her mission is to pamper customers both growing up and already grown. So along with the meticulous selection of clothes, bath products, paper goods and toys for young ones (all marked by a classic, feminine sensibility), she serves up molded soaps from Gianna Rose Atelier, Gossip Girl-inspired headbands, novelty bubble blowers in teh shape of ice cream cones, swimwear and other delights.

We Adore: These animal shaped hoodie towels (regularly $45, Store Adore price $38) are my go to baby gift.

We Adore: And for me? I may just add this Kenneth Jay Lane Amber Pear Necklace (regularly, $110, one sale for $27.50, Store Adore price $23) to my personal jewelry harvest right now!

New To Me: Insights from a Store Adore Intern

By Danielle Pelt

The first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word Tuscaloosa? The University of Alabama? Football? Sunshine and southern accents? All that and more…but probably not shopping. As a fashion-obsessed student—and one of three equally enamored sisters, whose closets I have the benefit of sharing—I make it my mission to stand out from the blue-jeans-and-a-polo clad crowd. Though I’m a master at scouring the malls and I take occasional trips to the boutiques in Birmingham, I still long for more options when it comes to shopping. That’s why I was particularly excited for the summer. Not only would I be in New York, where there’s a sweet little boutique to discover on every corner, but I’d also be interning at Store Adore, the ultimate authority on shopping. After weekends spent trolling the streets of Manhattan and afternoons browsing the site (hey, it’s work), I found a few new favorites. Here are my top five:

1) LF

The pages of a teen mag come to life at LF, a chain of retail stores aimed at youthful women with a freewheeling style. Filled with unknown and up-and-coming designers, LF’s merchandise feels fresh, with an emphasis on layering, eye-catching accessories, and mixing unexpected colors and patterns. I visited the Spring Street location, and was thrilled with the rainbow of options and the laid-back customer service. Since the LF site is ecommerce (bonus points for browsing options according to press, bestsellers, trends, and celebs), I can shop from home for undone looks like the one below.

2) Giving Tree Jewelry

What better way to get inspired or send good energy to a loved one that with jewelry with an uplifting quote or message of love or good wishes? Giving Tree Jewelry, a comprehensive jewelry site that also boasts a gallery and shop in Cape Cod, devotes an entire section to jewelry with meaning. I love the quotes on these Jeanine Payer pieces: The necklace ($330) reads “Nothing is worth more than this day” and the ring ($550), which has pieces that move, reads “Keep not standing fixed and rooted. Briskly venture, briskly roam.” Best of all, Store Adore shoppers get up to 20 percent off everything on the site.

3) ABC Home

When my mom came to visit me here, the first thing on her to do list was to go shopping for the New York apartment that she and my dad just purchased. I found ABC Home on Store Adore (natch), and I adore the eclectic selection (a different design theme on every floor!). We browsed classic bedroom sets, organic bedding, Persian carpets, and handmade baby toys.

4) Pink Olive

Calling all mommies! A shop that serves both babies and grown-ups with adorable gifts and personal must-haves seems so obvious, but is surprisingly hard to come by. Owner Grace Kang set up her store, which has locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn as well as an e-shop, according to three categories: Baby, Gifts (candles, jewelry, stationery, and knick knacks), and Getaway (bikinis, books, coverups, spa products, and anything else you need from some me-time, even if you never leave your house). That means I can shop for my little girl (see the two of us below at the Store Adore party at Big Drop), get presents for my friends at home, and scoop up a little something for myself. I would love to see my girl in this cheecky tee ($38) and to get her this antique pedal car ($200). Store Adore shoppers save 10% on everything at Pink Olive too.

a

5) Revolve Clothing

Any girl, but especially a college girl, needs her annual supply of jeans. Well the world revolves around denim at this extensive site, which boasts brands from Diesel to Antik Jeans to J Brand, plus the tops and tees (sports logos, Ed Hardy graffiti, to retro Mickey Mouse Club and more) to match. Even better, much of the site is on sale right now. While my closet is filled with Lucky, BKE, and Silver , what I’m craving right now is this pair of Ed Hardy with the colorful tattoo design ($198, on sale for $99) The white Diesel pair ($114, on sale for $57) also caught my eye also because I have been looking for a pair of hot white jeans all summer long. Revolve Clothing also offers work appropriate pieces and going out looks to round out a wardrobe, and from those my picks are the dress below by Joy Han ($283) and these super sexy pumps by Giuseppe Zanotti ($925)…

Full Circle Studio Bracelet to Benefit Breast Cancer

Thursday, August 14th, 2008
Posted in News & Announcements, Store Adore Blog

Sure, you should be able to interchange every pendant and charm you collect with every chain you own, but it never seems to work out that way. Indeed, a perfect fit, unless you bought the charm and chain together, is rare.

Full Circle Studio designer Dara Adams is always coming up with something new. First, she fulfilled our desire to be able to interchange pendants and charms on our necklace. Her adorable (and affordable) toggle bar and loop that lets you swap out a near-infinite number of charms on a single, all-purpose chain. Genius! (You can also save 20 percent with our exclusive Store Adore discount.)

Now, she’s launched a bracelet to benefit breast cancer research. This sterling bangle with a pink topaz is stamped with the phrase “Hope is a gift.” This edition is limited to 50 pieces and will sell for $100 on a first come, first serve basis. The bracelets will be available starting in the beginning of October, but Dara told us that she has a group of gals that collect the pieces she makes every year, so reserve one now if you’re into it. One for the Boys

Posted in Our Latest Obsessions, Store Adore Blog

I’ve been a little remiss in posting to The Store Adore Blog this week. We’re re-launching the site in a new tech platform (inside scoop: you heard it here first!) and I’ve been knee deep in data entry.

I did want to take a brief moment to highlight a new brand that I recently discovered when I complimented my friend Andrew on his thin whale corduroy turquoise pants. They’re from a genius new line called Bonobos that boasts one of those why-didn’t-I-think-of-that concepts like seamless underwear and stretch denim. Launched in 2007 by two Stanford Business School roommates (sounds kinda like us!), Bonobos is a men’s-only, pants-only that appeals to stylish guys who find themselves caught between Vineyard Vines-preppy or and East Village edgy, but comfortable with neither. Bonobos distinguishes itself with a focus on fit (nothing too baggy or skinny tight, and meant to flatter your butt–hey, guys need it too!); fabrics that are fun but not too crazy (I recommend the Brothers Grinn, at left, for those who prefer to stay away from the brights, $120); and prices that are beyond reasonable at $100-$140 per pair.

My only gripe? They only go up to a size 38 .

Being Stalked by Beanstockd

Ok, I couldn’t resist the pun. But the truth is that far from being stalked, we’re actually just really flattered about a feature on Store Adore on Beanstockd, a newly launched website that infuses pop culture and news with a healthy dose of green. Check out there article here.

What we love about the story is that the Beanstockd folks really understand Store Adore’s approach to eco-focused shopping: Environmentally-conscious options have grown from heaps of hemp into a fully stocked green market of stylish clothing, accessories and home items that are 100% appealing, regardless of your personal devotion to the cause. Our job is to highlight the best of the green shopping resources for you, just as we would with boutiques that focused on emerging designers, affordable accessories, party dresses, or anything else you might be shopping for.

My Shopping List from Heist (A 25% Discount is the Best Excuse for Stocking Up)

Thursday, July 17th, 2008
Posted in Exclusive Discounts, Shopping List, Store Adore Blog

When I go shopping in a store, I’m naturally drawn to whatever catches my eye first—bright prints, poppy colors, and highly embellished pieces. Yet the pieces that I crave (and the ones that ultimately make it to the cash register with me) are the ones that I can pull together in an attempt at effortless style—muted, go-with-everything shades; easy-to-layer shapes; and details that can be found in stitching and folds rather than flashy add-ons. I like shopping online most of all because these kinds of pieces really stand out: When you can see an item on a form, you can see how it drapes and flatters the figure. The subtle yet chic-est pieces, which often have less hanger appeal, have their turn to shine online.

We’d covered Heist when we profiled the Abbot Kinney neighborhood in Venice, and I was intrigued by how posh the store seemed compared to its more boho neighbors. But when we began offering a 25 percent Store Adore-exclusive discount on the store and its website, I took a much closer (virtual) look around. Heist is the kind of store that specializes in these classy, throw-it-on pieces from mostly European designers that I discovered during my days as a fashion editor.

I would love the chance to re-make my closet with pretty much everything on this site (out with the hot pink dress I wear once a year and in with the Vanessa Bruno!) but I’ll stick with a few choice items purchased with my 25 percent off coupon:

This wear-any-season Madame A Paris Dress (Regularly $495, Store Adore discounted price $371) can be layered with a filmy tank or leggings

So sultry—a drapey dress from Humanoid (Regularly $235, Store ADore discounted price $176) looks best barefoot

It’s taken me a few seasons, but this fall, I’m going for booties. I like the peep-toe on these from Pedro Garcia (regularly $375, Store Adore discounted price $281)
