New Exclusive Deal: Store Adore Shoppers Save 20% on Everything at Beautorium (Online)

Announcing the latest Store Adore deal: Save 20 percent on everything at Beautorium.

Every eco-savvy makeup queen knows that going green doesn’t mean Birkenstocks and hemp ponchos. For many of us, green can be glamourous—and when we want to feel particularly pretty, all we need is a visit to Beautorium, the leading purveyor of natural and organic beauty on the world wide web.

With the organics market growing exponentially—and flooded with industry jargon and fancy spin—only the most stellar boutiques stand out from the fray for their organics expertise. Beautorium, a newly launched site for organic makeup and beauty products, stands apart for both its selection of goods and its excellent design. Founders Ann Francke and Barry King, veterans of the European cosmetics industry, apply their passion for organics with their knowledge of lesser-known brands to this ultra user-friendly, online eco-boutique. At the heart of Beautorium is the Good to Know Guide, a system of icons and text that reveal helpful info, like a brand’s philanthropic efforts; a product’s effective ingredients, recent awards and accolades; and exactly how an item has been certified organic.

We Adore: It’s pretty hard to narrow down which individual Dr. Hauschka product to put in our shopping cart, but we’ve singled out the Moisturizing Day Cream, an incredibly light moisturizer suitable for sensitive skin (regularly $33, Store Adore price $26).

We Adore: This therapeutic Indian Lemongrass with Rosemary Hand & Body Lotion by Pangea smells as good as it sounds (regularly $16, Store Adore price 12). Bonus: lemongrass is an astringent, while rosemary helps cure acne and fatigue!

We Adore: John Masters is Hollywood’s official chemical-free hair hero, and you’ll see why once you try his Sweet Orange & Silk Protein Styling Gel (regularly $17.50, Store Adore price $14). Sex and the City stylista Kristen Davis and Sin City bombshell Rosario Dawson approve.

We Adore: Sexy cosmetic brand Afterglow is the spice of the green beauty industry, with red carpet must-haves like its Organic Lip Love, available in an easy-to-wear neutral, a trendy coral, a glamorous bright pink, and more (regularly $24, Store Adore price $19).

Always striving to educate consumers on safe cosmetics, the company recently produced a documentary advocating the benefits of keeping your makeup kit green, and warning against industry “greenwashing.”

Stand Up for a Cure with Beautorium

This Wednesday at Madison Square Garden, the Dave Matthews Band will perform a concert to benefit Stand Up for a Cure, a nonprofit that raises funds for cancer research. The concert will be hosted by Julia Roberts, DJ’d by Samantha Ronson and attended by Brad Pitt. (Anybody have an extra ticket?) Click on the image below to see the invite.

Beautorium, a newly launched site (and Store Adore obsession) for organic makeup and beauty products, is contributing to the gift bags. They’ve chosen to support the cause because many chemicals found in conventional cosmetics (especially parabens) have been linked in some studies to cancer.

What’s more, Beautorium will donate 10 percent of sales during the month of September to Stand Up for a Cure.

And don’t forget that Store Adore shoppers save 20 percent on all Beautorium purchases. Click here for details!

Announcing the Winners of our Beautorium Giveaway!

By Store Adore

Last month, we gave away three gift certificates from Beautorium, our favorite site for organic makeup and beauty products! Here, meet our three winners and get the scoop on their favorite stores!

1. Kaitlin Duncan

“Growing up on Long Island, Montauk has been a summer destination for my family for a long time. One of my favorite ‘East End’ stores has always been Haven, an awesome clothing/beauty/home store. For several years I could not go home without either a cute wooden picture frame, beach bag, or even a piece of furniture! I was so upset when the store had to close for the past seasons, but I hear that they are open for this season… and I will certainly be happy to return to my favorite Montauk shopping spot!”

2. Valerie Seefried

“My favorite Store Adore store is Diane von Furstenberg. She makes fabulous dresses that are beautifully fitted—her eye-catching prints always garner a deluge of compliments, no matter the occasion or where I am in the world!”

3. Kate Witten (pictured here with nephew Eli)

“My fave StoreAdore shop is Luna. There’s one in Atlanta and one in Bethesda near where my sister lives.”

Pick the Best Beauty Tip and Decide our Beautorium Winners!

Last month, we launched our Beautorium contest, offering $75 Beautorium gift certificates to the three commenters with the best beauty tips. Once again, we’re leaving the final decision up to you!

Here are our six semi-finalists. Pick your favorite, and we’ll reward the three most popular authors with Beautorium gift cards!

All comments must be received by Friday, June 20th. Commenters who do not have existing accounts will be granted free memberships to Store Adore.

A. Kate

As strange as it may sound, my favorite beauty product is Mama Bee Belly Butter made by Burt’s Bees. My grandma accidentally purchased a “mother and child” type gift set for me, although I am in no way pregnant, so I decided I would try to use the Belly Butter product on my “dryish” skin. It was amazing- and worked so much better than any other body butter or lotion! I’m almost out so, until a new one comes, I am wiping the inside of the jar for more!

B. Val

I’ve tried out a whole series of anti-aging face/eye creams, and forked out more cash than I’m willing to admit in the hope that they’ll reverse sun damage and keep me looking young for as long as possible. But I’ve always got a niggling doubt that I’m being conned and that these are just over-priced moisturizer. In late March of this year, British scientists released results from an independent study on Boots No 7 Protect and Perfect cream demonstrating that they work just as well as effective creams only available by doctor’s prescription. The day after the results were publicized, the creams sold out all over the UK! You can buy them quite easily here in the US, they’re not nearly as expensive as Clarins or other high end creams, and they’ve been scientifically proven to work. I’ve ordered some online and am waiting impatiently for them to arrive!

C. Stefanie
I used to spend tons of money on dept store facial care products, but switched to drugstore Aveeno years ago and love it!! I used the daily scrub cleanser (which has the perfect amount of exfoliation), the SPF30 moisturizing cream and the Positively Ageless night cream.

The one thing I recently discovered that’s not in the Aveeno family is Dr. Wexler’s Skin Regeneration serum. It has noticeably tightened my pores and brightened my complexion

D. Kara
I’m obsessed with Fekkai color care shampoo and conditioners (the pink line). The smell is the perfect mix between sweet and soapy clean, and the conditioner gets out the tangles better than any other. I first tried the Fekkai products when my boyfriend and I stayed at the Ritz on Central Park South for our anniversary. Although they are currently sold at Sephora, department stores, and Ricky’s, I still buy my pink Fekkai products in the gift shop at the Ritz!

E. Kate W.

I have so many tubes of Kiehl’s Baby Lip Balm that I find them in totally random nooks and crannies now, and each time I react like I’ve just found a $20. I am allergic to just about any other lip product out there and this is the only one that I not only tolerate but looove. I tried to “grow up” and once bought the adult Kiehl’s lip balm, but it wasn’t the same so I’m sticking with the baby version.

F. Ella

So, this is not cheap, but by gum it is amazing, and 2 pumps a day from the big bottle means it lasts a very long time: Shu Uemera’s Cleansing Oil. i use the green bottle - i’m not sure which variety it is, but i do know that it feels great going on and washes right off with no residue. it is some sort of weird chemical reaction - as soon as water hits the oil, it changes into something a little bit emulsified or something and just rinses right off. i know it sounds odd to clean your face with oil, but it means that your skin doesn’t ever get dry, and i think it is actually is really calming for your skin not to be attacked by soaps and suds.

A Beachy-Keen Take on a Green Getaway

By Kelly Riordan

As an avid beach-goer, lover of the ocean (yes—even willing to get my hair wet), and advocate for all that is eco-friendly, it is fair to say I am an expert in the necessities of a summer trip to the shore. Now let’s get one thing straight: I believe the beach is meant for relaxation, getting away from all the noise and distractions that come with everyday life… So leave your iPod and briefcase at home and get back to the basics. Staying true to the “going green” trend, I have selected basic must-haves for a perfect beach day full of leisure and style—and it all happens to be green, too. Insider tip: Download Store Adore’s printable guide to green shopping before you pack!

1. The Sunglasses

Greenloop’s iWood ecodesign wooden sunglasses are designed with the environment in mind, using the highest quality, sustainable exotic wood veneer. Imported from Italy, all iWood ecodesign products are individually crafted with the most modern techniques combined with old world craftsmanship—and of course they look fabulous. The lenses are of optical quality with 100% UVA and UVB protection. These features combined with the qualities of wood deliver a classy, bold and timeless statement. These eco-friendly shades are sure to insprire a Jackie-O attitude on the beach!

2. The Sunscreen

If you still shy away from shade and live to soak up the sun, protect your skin with Beautorium’s Dr.Hauscha’s organic suncreen. Offering sun defense in a lotion, spray, or easy-to-use stick, you can choose from SPF 8, 20 or 30. Suitable for all skin conditions, this sunscreen is enhanced with soothing ice plant and antioxidant seabuckthorn extract. An on-set staple product to the flawless faces on Grey’s Anatomy, Dr.Hauschka’s sunscreen has been been preventing skin damage for years.

3. The Beach Bag

Every mom who has visited the beach with kids by her side knows that shovels, pails and snorkels come along too. To carry these beach accessories for the little ones, a durable yet stylish beach bag is a must have. I recently discovered Green with Glamour, a company started by two fashion-forward friends, Kathleen Rowan and Deana Bracken. Through their shared consideration for the planet’s well-being and high style, the “green with glamour” concept was born. The Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Tote epitomizes the eco-friendly signature message and it’s super-durable-all wrapped up in one bag! Make a stylish statement with the raw cotton canvas, accented with recycled rope handle and metal studs—a perfect summer accessory!

4. The Summer Read

One of 3R Living’s most popular reads, The Lazy Environmentalist by Josh Dorfman, host of a Sirius Satellite Radio program and owner of Vivavi.com, gives fashion-forward consumers guidance about the long-term health of our planet when redecorating and remodeling. Covering topics from clothing to home decor to electronic gadgetry, this book is essential for every eco-reader, and Josh Dorfman proves green can be an extremely stylish and informative color.

And of course… 5. The Swimsuit

For those who rely on a basic, black bathing suit for the summer months: Katy Barry’s swimgear at BTC Elements are sophisticated, flattering and eco-conscious to boot. Barry creates classic silhouettes and fashion-forward trends only using organic materials. Coming in sizes extra-small through large, and made in California, this suit sums up what summer should be- fun, flirty, and in tune with nature!

Sick of eco-shopping sites, especially when they employ loaded phrases like “natural” (that oatmeal shade couldn’t be all that organic cotton has to offer) or “recycled cashmere” (never quite as quite the second time around)? We’ve sorted through heaps of hemp and turned up retail gems that offer strikingly stylish products that also happen to be good for Mother Earth. Presenting Store Adore’s favorite online sources for all things eco…After all isn’t green the new black?

Since Francke and King tell us that our bodies absorb 60 percent of what we put onto our skin, we’ve become especially paranoid about the body lotion we typical slather on after a shower. In scents like mimosa (above, did you know it was a plant??), lemon, and rose, German brand Martina Gebhardt moisturizers are made from purely organic extracts ($39) and are particularly suited for dry skin.

We asked Francke and King to recommend some of their own personal favorites. Check out their picks:

1. Saaf Organic Eraser Body Oil ($64.95): “From the world’s most certified beauty brand comes this cure all must have. [It] deals with dryness, irritation, blemishes, and pigmentation whilst smoothing imperfections away. Is there anything it doesn’t do? Maybe erase those extra five pounds. . .”

2. Cattier Secret Botanique Moisturizing Day Cream ($35): “This fragrance-free, silky-light moisturizer from France’s leading organic baby brand won a people’s choice Beauty Award in France last year. Need we say more? Oh yes—my teenage daughter steals mine!“

3. Rain Avocado Bath Salts Basket ($27.20): “ This gorgeous bathroom basket, lovingly handcrafted by 200 women in a village in South Africa, is filled with wild-harvested herbal bath salts from the African Savannah—the perfect gift for any occasion! Moms and mom-in-laws will love it!”
