This Holiday, I’m Thankful For…

By Lauren Stillman

There’s more than just sweet potatoes and stuffing to be thankful for this holiday. Some of Store Adore’s favorite shopping spots have already kicked off the season with can’t miss sales on must-have merchandise.

Shrine to all things luxe, Net-A-Porter is currently offering 50% many of its fab finds. In the perfect shade of neutral nude, I’ll be strutting in these Christian Louboutin stilettos (originally $965, now $579) long into spring.

E-commerce fave Shopbop.com has thousands of great items on sale including this one shoulder dress by ADAM (originally $495, now $247.50). With an easy draped silhouette and elegant hand-gathered rusching at the shoulder, its forgiving shape makes it the perfect dress for New Year’s Eve – you won’t feel self-conscious after a few glasses of bubbly. Shopbop customers can take advantage of an extra special offer through the weekend, earning $50 off when spending more than $250, $100 off when spending more than $500, $250 off when spending more than $1000 and $500 off when spending more than $1500 (enter THANKS2U upon check-out).

Revolve Clothing has launched it’s biggest sale ever with upwards of 9,000 items available for more than 50% off. I’ll be doing my best Blair Waldorf come December in this hunter green chiffon dress by Julie Haus (originally $315, now $221).

Robertson’s Diavolina is the perfect place for stocking up on the season’s hottest clothes and accessories. This week, fashion-followers can stock up on lustworthy items at 50% off, including this Mike & Chris leather jacket (originally $828, now $414). The buttery soft crinkled leather jacket stylishly straddles the line between Downtown edgy and Uptown chic.

Once the turkey hangover wears off on Friday, run (don’t walk!!) to Arcade, LA’s newly-opened den of glamour, for 50% off fall merchandise. These elegant hand-embroidered bags by Bird (originally $920, reduced to $460, call 323-944-0018) are the perfect way to invest in spring’s key boho tribal trend.

There’s no better time to indulge in life’s little luxuries…

New Exclusive Deal: Save 25% on Everything at Goldyn (Online)

Fashion junkie: noun. One who treats fashion magazines like textbooks, laps up the latest trends and passionately pursues the hottest new labels. A number of boutiques in major cities like New York and L.A. cater to such fashion followers, but what’s an FJ to do if she finds herself in areas where the style potential still remains untapped? Frustrated with a lack of resources for hot brands in their hometown of Denver, fashion junkies Vanessa Barcus and Melissa Gelfand founded Goldyn, an e-commerce site (and Denver-based trunk-show service) specializing in the latest labels and hottest new fashions. With short designer bios to provide shoppers with background information on their discoveries, the site features more than 40 designers, including Adam, Charlotte Ronson, Botkier, Mint and more, along with an edited collection of vintage clothing and jewelry.

We Adore: This cowl neck with silk chain (regularly $295, Store Adore price $221) is the same one that saw on Gossip Girl’s Serena wore on this week’ episode. Love the way she paired it with purple jeans.

We Adore:Also, by ADAM, this pleated double collar jacket (regularly $595, Store Adore price $446) is just the right item for the transition from summer to fall.

We Adore: This Epice floral print wrap (regularly $95, Store Adore price $67) adds pop to almost anything.

Store Interview: Dress

By Store Adore

Whether it be a lunch date, interview or mid-week drink, the question of what to wear always ends in a hanger-pulling rampage towards the back of my closet. The problem is that while dark skinny jeans may be too casual, the silk halter and trousers are definitely too much. So what’s a girl to do when the horror of ambiguous attire attacks without warning? Well, put on the perfect dress of course! At Dress in Boston, the fabulous boutique pays tribute to the life-saving wardrobe achievement that can take you from day to play without ever looking under or overdressed. With piles of little black numbers, flirty anytime garments and the best accessories to pair with your one-piece purchase, Dress is at the top of our list of Store Adore saviors. But why is this Back Bay gem so darn good at selecting the perfect pieces for night and day? We were curious, so this week’s interview spot went to Dress.

SA: What unexpected item has been flying off the shelves in your store?

Dress: It’s been a surprise to see so many people so early in the season inquiring about and purchasing heavier fall styles, like scarves and boots. Even in July, when our fall collections were just beginning to arrive and the weather outside was sunny and hot, we were getting requests for sweaters and winter coats!

SA: What is the craziest customer experience you’ve had?

Dress: Fortunately, I can’t think of one crazy customer experience! I guess we’ve been lucky! (We’d be too busy staring at this Folded Layer Neckline and Cinched Waist Dress by ADAM to cause any drama; below, $425 at Dress)

SA: What trends are you happy to see go?

Dress: It’s refreshing each year to see the previous seasons’ trends fade and new trends emerge. One trend that I was ready to see fade is the trapeze dress. While it’s a fun shape, it’s not an easy style for many women to wear.
SA: If you could only chose one word to embody your store, what would it be?
Dress: Classic.
SA: If you could recommend one item from your store to our users this season, what would it be?
Dress: There are so many! Let’s see; I guess I would recommend that everyone buy a pair of Fiorentini+Baker boots. They are beautiful, classic and chic, not to mention comfortable. You’ll want to live in them! (We adore these FIORENTINI+BAKER Mid-Calf Boots; below, $469)
SA: If you could dress any celebrity, who would it be?
Dress: Anne Hathaway has a great figure for clothes, and a great sense of style. She would be one my top picks!

Floaty layers, despite their delicate demeanor, made a strong showing on the runways this weekend in NYC. With less pomp than a ruffle, these tiered looks are feminine and flirty, with not too much fuss. These concoctions won’t hit stores for a few months, but there are plenty of similar looks available at Store Adore boutiques, many with exclusive Store Adore deals. So have a look at some of our runway faves, then float your way through fall with one (or two or three!) of these new seasonal picks.

Left to right: Preen, Erin Fetherston and ADAM.

1. This pretty Rebecca Taylor Tiered Ruffle Cami Dress in silk ($345), will work with bare legs at fancier events, like a wedding. Or, add open weave tights and edgy accessories for a bit of rocker girl chic. (The rosette is removable.) Available at Pink Mascara. Store Adore exclusive: $20 off purchases of $100 or more!

2. The perfect weekend piece! Throw on this grey jersey Velvet Teresita Dress ($152), with sneaks or flips to walk the dog. Tights and ankle booties bring it up a notch for weekend outings. Shopping expedition, anyone? Available at Basic Boutique. Store Adore exclusive: 25% off purchases of $150 or more.

3. Certainly summery, but not without winter possibilities Grace Sun Periwinkle Silk Ruffle Top ($156), will dress up any boyfriend blazer. When your warm, remove the jacket for a drop dead effect. Available at Blondette. Store Adore exclusive: 25% off purchases of $100 or more.

4. This darling (but not too) Hanii Y Empire Coat With Hood ($695), can be dressed up or down, and will make the transition from one season to the next. Available at Venice Beach boutique, Heist. Store Adore exclusive:25% off regularly priced purchases.

Trend Alert: How the Braid Does it All

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

By LaurenP

To me, it is the Elizabeth Bennet of design accents. Delicate, but extraordinary; soft, yet surprising; classic, but with just enough “oomph” to still pack a punch, braids have been popping up everywhere. But you don’t need to be an Austen enthusiast to appreciate the effect of a properly placed braid, because designers are now using this whimsical embellishment in the most unexpected ways. The interlaced construction is replacing the essential straps and supporting elements of many garments, allowing established labels to blur the lines of artistry and architecture. For instance, every purse needs a strap, right? (Ignore the existence of the clutch for a moment.) Well, Treesje transformed the necessary handles of a handbag into funky-and-fun design elements by replacing the ordinary purse strap with braids. (Below: Treesje Black Asher Bag available at Privileged, $490)

A simple black leather bag suddenly gains some head-turning appeal with the addition of a concise braided detail. The fact that Store Adore shoppers receive a special 20 percent discount doesn’t make it any less enticing, does it? The brilliance of the braid is this: it is fun, flirty and playful without being loud or unrefined. It is the perfect statement of underscored elegance every great shopper searches for but not-so-often finds. On the Treesje purse the braid adds an off-beat, unexpected charm, but here on the ADAM braided strap wrap tank (below, $185 at Goldyn, where store adore shoppers also save 20 percent) the braided cross-back shoulder straps endow an otherwise ordinary tank top with subtle femininity.

Seductively ladylike, the gentle openness of this top is so nonchalantly sexy, I just can’t stand it!

Aside from the new ways that designers are using the braid and summoning its feminine air, the most fascinating aspect of the braided trend this season is the way different materials are being intertwined. On the “Thalia” Macrame Neck Dress at Reiss (below, $540), the braid is a dazzling entanglement of gold that dances against entrancing sapphire silk to exude a sense of elegance rarely discovered off the Oscar’s red carpet.

Very few staples of adolescence manage to sneak their way into adulthood, so when the braid managed to find its way from my second-grade hairdo into my favorite, fashion-focused boutiques, I felt obligated to share the latest eye-catching trend. My advice? Rock this punch-packing style and leave your spectators wondering what hit them.
