Store Adore Launches in The Hamptons

By Store Adore on Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

May 22, 2008 - New York City, NY, - Meredith Barnett and Cristina Miller of StoreAdore.com expand their shopping coverage with the launch of the Hamptons.

Barnett and Miller believe a Hamptons weekend should be about sunny days on the beach and quality time with family and friends—not endless hours spent shopping.  On the other hand, looking impeccable from poolside to party pages is a Hampton’s tradition – nay, requirement.

For the style savvy who don’t want to waste precious beach time, here is the Store Adore short list of some of the best boutiques the Hamptons has to offer.  Stock up on everything that you absolutely must have—the gilded gladiators, candy-hued sundresses and billowy blouses—and then get back to fun in the sun.

Don’t miss the Westhampton newcomer, Chic Boutique. Hardly a week old, it’s already garnering buzz for its flirty and sophisticated dresses and separates from the likes of Rachel Pally, Tarte and Tea & Honey.  The soothing, beach house-inspired décor and airy, uncluttered space makes for a calming experience.

Another must visit is Jimmy’s with its well-appointed showroom, expansive fitting area and knowledgeable sales staff. Shopping at Jimmy’s is an elegant experience, as is befitting of the clothes that lie within. Only the best makes it to these racks—think Alaia, Marchesa, Zac Posen and Carolina Herrera, among many others.

If your weekend pulls you to Southhampton, then LF and Jildor are Store Adore’s top picks. LF positively overflows with frilly dresses, skin-tight denim, downtown-cool footwear, jumpsuits, mini-skirts, piles of crave-able accessories and everything a young (if only at heart), trendy-savvy gal must have in her arsenal.

Jildor is the Hampton’s most comprehensive shoe source. Even the most finicky footwear fiend couldn’t walk out empty-handed. Stocking a list of shoe designers that defies summarizing (oh, ok – Tory Burch, Bernardo, Chloe, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Havianas and at least 100 others),

Making the trek Montauk? Store Adore recommends Screaming Mimi’s. The Montauk outpost is a bit less raucous than its big-city brethren. The jam-packed, beach-y shop is outfitted with top-quality vintage and new items from cool lines like Opening Ceremony (which you won’t find elsewhere in these parts). Hint:  The seersucker shorts with rope trim have been making waves on local style pages—grab them up before they’re gone.

And for those surfers or wannabe surfers, Tauk is the boutique. A surf-y, beach lifestyle store of the chicest sort with well-edited new and vintage clothes for men and women, ethnically-inspired beachwear, jewelry and accessories from local designers and international craftsman alike, it’s unlike any other boutique we’ve seen.

The options are endless for East Hampton, but Store Adore narrows it down to the top three don’t miss boutiques. With J. Crew: At The Beach, the increasingly upscale brand delivers an adorably packaged selection of merchandise to East Hampton’s upscale clientele.  At this tiny store on Newtown Avenue, marked by festive summer-themed window dressings and a weathered exterior, whitewashed displays offer a specially-sorted selection of Hamptons-appropriate attire, from airy linen pants and bikinis to shell-themed charm bracelets, white dinner blazers and silk shifts. The shop also carries a limited selection of the hard-to-find J. Crew Collection pieces, in beachy weights and prints, perfect for evening weddings and dancing on the deck. A solid guy’s shop in the back of the store means your man will never lack whale-print Bermuda shorts during the high season.

As is the trend for testing the South Fork waters before opening up officially, Mulberry will open a popup shop this summer with a location in Main Street. Celebrated for uniting timeless designs and luxurious leathers with a touch of whimsy, U.K. accessories label Mulberry holds court on the luxury handbag scene. The brand typifies British style: The leather briefcases, hobos, satchels and luggage are pristinely put together—but retain a sense and fun and colorful flair.

The Roberta Freymann is ‘East meets West’ in this Southeast Asian-influenced yet New Yorker-friendly boutique. Delicately embroidered tunics, bamboo-adorned woven sandals, intricate embossed gold cuffs and tastefully embellished clutch purses reside in this homey space filled with Roberta Freymann’s worldly marketplace-hopping-inspired designs. From shift dresses to flat leather sandals to coverups, Freymann’s pieces have a slightly preppy twist that appeals to Hamptonites/Upper East Siders who (foolishly!) believe that this lovely shop is their little secret.

Store Adore is all for keeping it in the family. In Sag Harbor on Memorial Day weekend, designer Donna Karan will debut her second Urban Zen boutique (the original store in the West Village opened in October) separated by a quaint garden from Tutto Il Giorno, an Italian restaurant in which daughter Gabby and her husband Gianpolo DeFelice have an interest. The drapey nomadic Urban Zen collection is one prong of Karan’s mult-faceted initiative towards well-being and patient advocacy.  Shop for loose, layering pieces; earthy jewelry, and art from a rotating group of artists—then skip next door for truffled polenta and crispy soft shell crabs. It’s the kind of loose and luxurious living the Hamptons is known for.

Don’t forget about Quogue and the Bev Cardo boutique. The Hamptons breezy chic meets cheeky Palm Beach preppie at this off-the-beaten path home and gifts store.  While tooling around Quogue the cottage-like structure right off Montauk Highway with its inviting window displays — like a loveseat piled high with colorful beachy pillows — is sure to attract. Step on the breaks and come inside, stroll through three rooms filled primarily with covetable items for the home, as well as eye-catching jewelry from Kenneth Jay Lane and with gift-able accessories including Jonathan Adler tongue-in-cheek needlepoint eyeglasses cases. Snag a gift at Bev Cardo for your hostess this summer and even if you over-indulged on mojitos at the backyard barbeque, you’re practically guaranteed another invite next year. Newly available this season: sweet beach and cocktail dresses.
