Fab online shoe boutique SimplySoles has launched its first brick-and-mortar shop in the up-and-coming area of Columbia Heights.

Mother of two, trained CPA and “tax master” Kassie Rempel launched her online site and catalog business in 2004, but knew that her DC clientele needed a spot to shop.

“Most people open a store first and then create a website. I chose to do just the opposite and make my products available worldwide and establish the SimplySoles brand by exposing it to fashion connoisseurs everywhere. That will always be a goal of ours, but now we get to meet face to face with our customers and engage them in a way we’ve not done before. We are known for our excellent customer service and that will continue to be a top priority in our new location,” says Rempel, who has been named as one of the top five emerging entrepreneurs in Entrepreneur magazine’s Annual Awards, recognized by the Washington Business Journal as one of the 2008 Women Who Mean Business, and has been featured on the cover of Fortune Small Business magazine in a story on extreme customer service.

In addition to designers like Tory Burch, Chie Mihara, Delman, Bettye Muller and Lilly Pulitzer, Rempel has started her own shoe line that’s exclusive to SimplySoles. It’s called named lillybee consists of nine styles (including two that are vegan), all of which are are shipped to the customer in a durable, quilted bag named the ShoeShuttle that is designed for transporting shoes and also saving trees in the process by eliminating the need for a shoe box. Best of all, every pair is $195 or less. (Check out the Kristen. Hilary and Gwyneth, above.)

If you can visit the cheerful pink and chandelier-filled store in person, be sure to bring a pair of gently worn closed-toe shoes. Simply Soles will donate them to Suited for Change, a local non-profit that helps women in transition dress for success. You’ll also receive a 10% discount on your next purchase just by making the donation.

Our (One and Only) Modeling Gig. See us on Ravinstyle

We’ve always loved Ravinstyle, the interactive boutique featuring the profiles of stylish women from the real world (mostly models and fashion editors), who inspire shoppers by modeling outfits pulled from the site’s stash of independent designers. These days, we really love Ravinstyle, since the Ravinstyle team not only selected us to appear in their upcoming campaign (we’re not worthy!) but they also made us feel like superstars throughout. (What could be better than a “work day” spent getting your hair and makeup done, pulling together your dream outfit, and striking a pose?)

Ravinstyle’s M.O. is to ask its “models” to select clothing that reflects their own personal sense of style. While Meredith favors the muted classics paired with of-the-moment accessories, Cristina’s closet is all business, with an added dash of sass. Check out the feature on Meredith and Cristina, and browse for the items Store Adore’s two leading ladies loved so much. (Meredith’s already been seen wearing the Plume Feather Headband around the office.)

PS. Don’t forget that you can save $25 on a $100 purchase at Ravinstyle. Just enter “StoreAdore” at checkout. Click here for details.

The temperature in New York—where Store Adore offices grace the Madison Avenue sidewalk—has gone from “oh, winter is here” chilly, to “good God am I in the Arctic!?” frigid over the past few days. We need gloves! The Echo Bow Gloves (regularly $125, Store Adore price $100) that Cristina sported are elegant in a classic black leather, or with a swanky metallic twist. Both color options are adorned with an eye-catching bow detail, and the leather is treated with aloe that moisturizes you hands with every wear!

Cristina is known in the office for her fascinating scarves. Yes, the woman grew up with a super-stylish female force in the form of her mom, Rosalia, but that doesn’t mean the rest of us should have to live without the stunning color and pattern influences that go into Ms. Miller’s everyday ensemble! It’s no surprise to us that Cristina singled out this gorgeous and interesting Tolani Scarf ($85), or that the whole office snatched it up the second she did. Rich with color and an enticing zig-zag print, this single item will had a whole lot of pop to your winter blacks and browns.

We all know that great minds think alike, so naturally if those two minds both have flawless taste they will shop alike as well. The Cammie Hill Croc Day Tote caught two sets of eyes when our co-founders browsed the Ravinstyle stock. This one roomy tote carries as much as you dare to pack without looking duffle-ish or dowdy. The drool-worthy cherry red crocodile stamped leather doesn’t hurt either.

vfish Comes Home

Even if you don’t know vfish designs, you know vfish designs. Chances are, you’ve spotted the brand’s dresses, tops and sweaters from across the room; you’ve seen them hanging on the racks of your favorite boutiques; or maybe you’ve even take one of th comfortably chic, utterly wearable pieces home. Regardless of how your relationship with vfish began, one look at the Chicago-based line and you were probably instantly involved in a serious relationship. How could you not be? vfish fits every qualification on your list: Clothing that hugs your body just right? Check. A line that flatters, constantly? Check. Pieces that you are proud to show off anywhere? Check. Duds that are comfortable enough to let you be yourself? Check. Apparel that you want to stick around for seasons to come? Double Check. It seems you’ve found your designer soul mate.

Now, us Chicagoans don’t want to brag or anything, but as of late vfish has been paying us an awful lot of attention. See, they’ve just opened up a flagship shop in Lincoln Park, giving their wearable designs a permanent home. vfish admirers are rejoicing, as not only does the store carry an impressively large selection of vfish clothing, but it’s also the home of the brand’s studio and showroom, meaning that brand new designs, samples, and one-off pieces will be at shoppers fingertips almost instantly. After one trip around the new store, I quickly discovered vfish’s best quality: it’s affordability. The price point is almost jaw-droppingly low; an unexpected treat for a designer flagship shop.

In the past, Chicagoans have gotten their vfish fix at Mint Julep and Sara Jane, and that likely won’t change— these shops’ laid-back, sophisticated clothing selection compliments vfish to a tee. But it’s nice to know that an expanded array of the line’s tops, dresses and skirts exists somewhere in the city.

So to give you guys a feel for this line, I’ve picked a few of my favorite pieces— a to-buy priority list for me; a brief overview for you:

Image courtesy of the vfish website

The Beth dress ($113) is sleek, simple and slimming. The mini-hemline plays into the season’s trends, while the top is conservative enough for work. Check out the gorgeous, subtle pleating up by the collarbone.

I love the slightly poofed sleeves on this Tara jacket ($120). The oversized buttons are playful, but the overall look is polished. It will pair perfectly with a trim skirt and tights at work, or be a more exciting dinner-and-a-movie top when added to a pair of jeans and a plain white tee.

This sweater ($87) may look Plain Jane, but a small scoop in the back divulges just the right amount of skin. Plus, I love the length! It’ll never ride up over the midriff when you raise your arms, and it offers a crisp, lean silhouette.

A cute cocktail dress ($193) in a color that will brighten any room—and chase away any winter blahs. The back zipper is exposed, too, giving it the tiniest dose of edge.

I don’t know about you guys, but I practically live in cardigans in the fall and winter. Partly because I get cold easily and partly because I just love the layered look, but I have a collection that is overflowing out of my drawers. However, I’ll still scoop up this cute 3 button cardigan ($87). It’s just fitted enough, just loose enough, and it pairs with nearly everything.

Bienvenue Chez Catherine

By Lauren Stillman

Mesdames de Los Angeles, bienvenue à Catherine Malandrino Maison, the newly-opened concept store by French designer Catherine Malandrino.

Going beyond a simple brick-and-morter boutique, Catherine Malandrino Maison has been designed to give shoppers a glimpse into the life of the celebrated designer.

The globetrotting goddess of chic bohemian style has established residence for her west coast “home” in a charming, architectural two-story building across the street from Melrose Place. In addition to her two namesake collections (the Catherine Malandrino contemporary line and the designer Malandrino runway line), the shop sells the full range of Malandrino’s accessories (shoes, sunglasses and jewelry) as well as home décor, unique antique “objects,” fashion and art books (including Malandrino’s own recently published tome commemorating the tenth anniversary of the brand) and framed photographs (provided by The Celebrity Vault), all personally selected by the designer herself. The boutique is also one of few stores to sell Malandrino’s “Collectors” pieces, reissues of Catherine’s favorite designs from season’s past.

What better way than to welcome guests to her new Hollywood home (and a new President to the nation) than with Catherine’s iconic American Flag dress? Set against a glimmering wall of yellow mirrors reminiscent of California sunshine, the grand entryway currently features this recognizable frock, famously worn by Tinseltown royalty including Halle Berry, Madonna and Demi Moore. For a limited time, shoppers wanting to get the look for themselves can pick up one of the Limited Edition reissues of the dress (photo below), available at the store for $450. Perfect for those in the patriotic spirit following the election!

In an effort to create an environment where people not only want to shop, but also spend the day enjoying the beautiful space, Malandrino has partnered with The Little Next Door (one of LA’s most popular gourmet French restaurants) to offer a café within the boutique (due to open in 2 weeks). The menu includes everything from authentic French pastries (viennoiseries) to salads to fois gras torchons and a selection of tartines, all prepared with fresh organic produce from the local Farmer’s Market.

Next to the café, Catherine has curated a wall of her personal photographs, much as she would in her own home. Guests can share in Catherine’s world through pics of her family, friends and intimate moments captured at her fashion shows. Nous sommes toutes amies, n’est-ce pas?

No matter whether you stop by to pick up a Catherine Malandrino classic belted shirtdress or just to enjoy a café au lait, this is one boutique you will want to add to your regular shopping routine.
