Fashion Week 101: The Weekend’s #1s
Ahh, fashion. Despite the fact that the weather is just now beginning to crisp, the glitterati are already immersed in the Spring 2009 collections, debuting over the next few weeks. While the shows are but one third of the way complete, there have been more than enough to speculate on emerging trends while still few enough to oogle without getting overwhelmed. Sadly, I write this from my couch, not the tents of Bryant Park… but the good news is that these photos are probably giving me a better view of the collections than I’d see from the chairs anyway.
Courtesy of Style.com, here’s a glimpse at the best thus far. (All photos courtesy of Style.com unless otherwise noted.)
I’ll admit having not heard of this designer’s collections much before her debut, but now I’m fascinated by her spring line, a feminine romp through simple color palates (white, black, cream) and 70s-inspired details, particularly seen in the model’s chic bohemian headscarves. I’m a fan of the architecturally-inspired details on this sexy skirt/top number (whoo hoo, my structured fall duds are still in style).
As a general rule, I shy away from these designs, particularly their oft-overdone cocktail wear. But Lubov Azria’s spring collection just may make me change my mind. Several of her dresses were perfectly formed, flowy and crafted to flatter a woman’s figure. It was, however, the several jumpsuits (I predict a major trend) that most caught my eye. Not sure how this silver number would look on a non-model, but I sure am hoping for a try-on.

Who can say they’re not excited to see what Samantha Ronson’s sis sent down the runway in her first ever Fashion Week appearance? Apparently, paparazzi were abuzz (more with Lindsay’s appearance than Charlotte’s fashions), but there’s much that they should have been taking note of on the runway. I think I like this sexy floral meets rocker chic look best.

I love a collection that features a dressed up version of pajamas! I’m absolutely head-over-heels for this sexed up number, which the designer herself was reportedly wearing to an evening fete.
Collections I’m most excited to see for the rest of the week:
DVF: One of my favorite designers, (maybe I’m biased; her stuff just fits my curvy figure) but I especially can’t wait for pics of her newest employee, Whitney Port!
Ports 1961: When I strike it rich, I’m investing in at least a few of this Canadian designer’s oh-so-chic dresses.
3.1 Philip Lim: After oogling his fall line in Neimans today, I can’t wait to see what he does for spring.
Project Runway: ‘Natch.
