Grasshopper Fall Backwards Sale

James Dean.  Lauren Hutton.  Short films.  Tall boots.  Photo booths.  Polaroids.  Now you can add retro Philadelphia boutique Grasshopper to your “cool” list.

While everyone’s falling backwards this weekend, you can stay fashion forward with keen indie threads and designer denim from Grasshopper.  Pulling together a look that’s stylish without trying is even easier with 20% all new styles.

The sale will be ongoing until Sunday, November 1st, and missing it would be totally un-cool.

Bus Stop Boutique Harvest Sidewalk Sale

Nearly every culture and region around the globe celebrates the autumn harvest season, but Bus Stop Boutique is celebrating more than just the biggest holiday in fresh produce - it’s the arrival of their new fall stock!

Drop by on Saturday, November 1st from 11am - 5pm for savings on chic seasonal wear, plus 15% OFF any non-sale item.

Old City Light Festival

Everything Old City is new again with glowing lights decorating this Philadelphia neighborhood.  The festival gets a head start on Friday, November 7th at 7:00pm.  In addition to a live jazz band and a raffle to win an Old City Collective gift basket worth $1000, there will be food and drinks to keep the party going.

Escape the cold and duck in to one of the area’s “hot spots” for hot apple cider, or revel in the winter chill with pumpkin ice cream from Franklin fountain.  And while you’re walking the beatuiful streets of Old City, stop by some of our favorite shopping destinations, like Foster’s Homeware, J. Karma, and Scarlett Alley!

Happy Halloween: Star Wars Shines

Friday, October 31st, 2008
Posted in Seasonal Features, Shopping List, Store Adore Blog, Uncategorized

It’s Halloween again. That’s a pretty big deal in my house. Actually, it’s a pretty big deal in my neighborhood. The public playground throws a party—the most attended of the year. The guy who owns the mansion on the corner hires a decorator and caterer to gussy up the entry and dining room to resemble a graveyard and haunted house, complete with fancy hors d’eouvres and libations for the parents, and goody bags for the kids. (Though at the moment, Mel Gibson’s film crews have taken the place over to shoot his latest film.) At sundown, Marlborough Street closes, and every parent and child around treks off in search of candy. The houses are decorated, some with sound effects, people sit on their porches, hand out candy and coo at the kids’ costumes. A bunch of grown-ups even get dressed up. Not I. My kids, of course, do. Last year they were FBI agents, donning blue blazers, ties and handcuffs. This year it’s all Star Wars, all the time. One will be a Clone Trooper and the other Darth Vader. See their pic above. Their friends will be various other Star Wars characters, like Babba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi. If I were a more indulgent mom, I’d muster up the energy to parade around as Princess Leia. Alas, it’s not happening. However, if you are looking for some galactic inspiration this Halloween, read on, because you can battle the dark side decked out in designer pieces from our best boutiques.

Most of us have come to terms with the arrival of winter. It’s fun at first to bundle up in chunky knits and new puffer jackets, but the novelty wears off pretty quickly, and we start to long for sunshine. There are some spots where it’s summer all year round. And one of those places is stunning Santa Barbara. Here you can get bikini clad like a Baywatch babe and hit the beach; go wine tasting at one of the area’s legendary vineyards; and of course, stroll the shopping streets. Santa Barbara boasts two main shopping areas: On State Street, you can browse Michael Stars for a full selection of the brand’s famous tees; check out Wendy Foster’s four locations stocked with covetable designers from around the world; or find the sexiest underthings at A Tropical Affair. Across town in Montecito, find polished resort wear at Kate and eclectic home decor at Maison K.
