My ideal vacation consists of sandy beaches, fruity cocktails (preferably served in hollowed out pineapples) and plenty of time allotted for decadent massages and relaxation. The term “African safari adventure” is enough to send chills of panic down my spine.
Despite my preference for Bora Bora over Botswana, I’ve found myself on a shopping safari lately as my favorite boutiques and e-commerce sites have been serving up healthy doses of animals known for roaming the wild African tundra.

I was stopped in my tracks at 3rd Street’s Malgosia recently, delighted to discover this animal print dress by Malene Birger (on sale for $222.50). The easy-to-wear silk dress features a veritable zoo of characters with a crystal-encrusted neckline as an added bonus.

Further west on 3rd Street, hip boutique Aero & Co has partnered with Moss Mills to offer a store-within-the-store chock full of their signature flora and fauna-inspired jewelry, belts and clothing. A recent visit yielded many must-haves including this adorable hippo pendant necklace ($109, call Aero & Co to order at 323-653-4651), which opens locket-style to reveal a secret compartment — the perfect carrying case for your favorite solid perfume.

Known for her girly crystal-encrusted cartoon cameos, Tarina Tarantino adds a taste of the exotic to her repertoire with this long gold chain necklace with elephant charms (on sale for $167.50 at 80spurple.com). The necklace stays true to Tarantino’s hallmark girly flair with a ribbon tie closure and dangling bow and pearl accents.

Dedicated to bringing its shoppers unusual finds in an easy-to-shop e-commerce site, Elsewares offers these cute-as-a-button pillows by Brooklyn-based interior designer Estela Lugo. Handmade of 100% wool felt, these decorative pillows ($65.95 each) feature lovestruck elephants, giraffes and owls and will be as big a hit with wee-ones as they are with adults.

Lighthearted Manhattan boutique Wink features this elephant pendant necklace ($98). The elephant’s trunk faces upwards, universally believed to be a symbol of good luck.
I must admit, I’m smitten, but I’m still not packing my bags for Zimbabwe anytime soon.
